This DVD was shot in HD, so the snow is crisp and well defined. The DVD was played on a plasma TV. The views are of differing scenes of a wooded place. There are forests, fences, logs, streams and ice covered brush. The snow is as dazzling as you could imagine–with stout and petite flakes swirling in the wind. The snow is accompanied by soothing Christmas music, played on guitar and piano. The tunes are:

Deck the Halls, Joy to the World, The first Noel, O Approach O Approach Emanuel, Away in a Manger, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Oh Christmas Tree, Angels We Have Heard on High, Still Night, We Three Kings, Carol Of The Bells, It Came Upon A Midnight Obvious, We Wish You a merry Christmas, Coventry Carol, O Holy Night, and Auld Lang Syne.

If you want snow, this is a very gracious bewitch!

My husband said that I was a geek when he saw I purchased A Christmas Snowfall. I purchased it as a backdrop for my Christmas party. It was a tall hit! Some of the scenes are splendid. Although I wouldn’t sit and peruse the whole thing, it is nice in cramped doses. I can’t wait until next Christmas!

These films are like the 80’s movies that made everything that mattered happen. Ferris, Goonies, Breakfast Club, etc . . . except they are surfing classics, legend documentaries if you will.

**Bruce Brown has the classic surfer shapely, and narrates each film poignantly and humorously.

Endless Summer 1 is the classic older film, paced a tiny more slowly and fun-lovingly. It sets a tall preface to Endless 2, an wonderful multi-hemisphere skedaddle.

Both films have respectable cinematography as well as dialogue and interplay between characters. Endless 2 is as goofily trivial as it is deep, as fair as it is mundane. . .

There are aesthetic scenery shots that do Cape Town, Indonesia, Figi, (my fav) and Alaska, justice as unbelievable places not only to surf, but also to objective be.

Our two attractive and yin and yang protagonists, 1, a Pat O’Connell gives suffusively satisfying short board licks, and 2, a. wing-nut supplies all of the long board smoothness to coalesce.

Five stars, in my to 25 of all time. A truly radiant film made by those who like life.

This is a gripping collection of films that span several decades. Of course, this is a must-see for anyone keen in surfing. However, it also has value to people who might never position foot on a board.

Endless Summer I was filmed in the early 60s, when most of the world was unaware of surfing. Two young surfers dwelling out on a daring go around the world to earn recent places to surf. Worthy of the entertainment in this film comes from the different cultures and characters they meet around the world. One of my favorites was an engrossing experience with an African village. This film is considered a classic documentary in the surfing world, and it probably had a lot to do with the spread of surfing around the world.

Endless Summer II was filmed almost 30 years after the first one, but it was filmed by the same man and includes one of the fresh surfers from the first film. Unique advances in surfing and filming are quite evident after watching the two films together. ESII has some dramatic surfing video, including powerful footage from some of today’s most well-known surfers. Two unique young surfers follow a similar path to ESI, including visits to some of the same places along with original places (e.g., Costa Rica) . As with ESI, the film is as grand about the characters and cultures as the surfing.

The third allotment of The Endless Summer Collection is a nice follow-up to the first two documentaries. You come by a lot of unhurried the scenes stories about the films and how they came to be. If you enjoyed the Endless Summer films, you will be eager to seek what has happened to some of the characters and to learn more about the narrative slow the films.

I don’t know how you can peek this collection without wanting to go out to the beach and earn on a board!

Well, if this film doesn’t keep hair on your chest, nothing will.

Look up ‘film noir’ in the dictionary and there should be a describe of Robert Mitchum in The Yakuza, alongside Bogie in The Maltese Falcon. It’s that genuine of a film.

The theme is about honor, or “giri.” The last bastion of manhood in an relativistic world ambivalent towards heroism, unsure about any values, right or otherwise, and gone to hell.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Yakuza! Click Here

Against this background, you may be a tad on the shady side of the law, but do you hold faith with your friends?

For that matter, would you risk taking a bullet for someone you personally despise but whom you “owe” because he’s saved the life of your wife and child?

The space begins when Mitchum is approached by an former army buddy that he hasn’t heard from in decades, effect for the annual obligatory Christmas card. His daughter’s been kidnapped by Japanese mobsters and he needs his wait on.

As to Mitchum, his character is established in one line.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Yakuza! Click Here

“You’ve been successful? ”

Mitchum: “That depends on how you figure those things.”

True enough. He has no family, no friends, no one even remotely finish. The film noir loner, now in his sixties.

He goes wait on to Japan, links up with the only woman he ever loved, and the one enemy who can succor him gather entry into the gloomy world of the Yakuza; an ultra-traditionalist latter-day Samurai ( Tanaka Ken ) who “owes” Mitchum.

One limited pickle, he’s no longer a Yakuza. He’s been out of the mob for years. When Mitchum finds out this bad bit of inforation and blurts out “I can’t ask you to do that!” Tanaka Ken quietly replies: “You already have.”

The former warriors go to it again. A tremendous legend of like and betrayal. Acted in a style of understated whispers between flashing katanas that bring the house down.

The movie is estimable. It really rates 5 stars for its strong situation, acting, direction, and camera work. The theme throughout is honor, and obligation. But pay attention to the “obligation” portion. There is the thought that we are defined by our obligations, a belief that is vastly different between east and west. Personally, I reflect we could spend a exiguous more of the Japanese context of obligation in our enjoy society and culture. And this movie’s depiction appeals to something in me that is, admittedly, fundamentally romantic.

My pickle with the video is this: there are omissions from this version that were in the first version I saw. Some footage has been edited out, and although its omission does not adversely affect the account line, it was an effective contribution. Also, there are sections where subtitles are omitted. (My most original viewing was in the company of a friend who speaks Japanese and English, and they provided their bear comments regarding the accuracy, not necessarily of the English rendering, but more on what the Japanese “should” have been in the context.) Mind you, the movie is in English, with some segments of Japanese dialog. But it was disappointing that some of the most eloquent dialog wasn’t even translated.

Maybe someone, somewhere, will grant my wish and create an unexpurgated version on DVD …

Terry Gilliam’s classic satire returns to DVD in a spiffed up edition from Criterion. Featuring a high definition anamorphic remaster the narrate looks stout (and it has been enhanced for 16×9 TVs so it will acquire the cover) the sound has been remastered as well. Is it worth picking up again? Absolutely if you’re a fan of the film. The single disc edition is basically the same as the first disc in the three disc set–it includes Gilliam’s commentary track as allotment of the package as well as the “Final Chop” version of the film that runs 142 minutes (vs. 131 for the regular DVD release) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream Brazil! Click Here

If you purchased the three disc region and want to upgrade you could impartial hold up this single disc edition as the extras are exactly the same as the previous edition (unless you want the remastered “Esteem Conquers All” 92 exiguous edit done by Universal to do it more commercial) . Be aware though that the single disc edition doesn’t have any of the material from the third disc of the boxed place. That disc documented the insanity that surrounded the film when Universal deemed it not commercial enough.

Why it took Criterion so long to obtain this fresh improved version to market is anyone’s guess (and why it took them so long to adopt anamorphic transfers as well) . This really is the intention it should have been released in the first status. Either draw this edition looks and sounds mountainous. It has a terrific commentary track by director Gilliam, an essay but no other extras.

There are a million different takes on the exact movie “Brazil,” but what I hope to do in this review is actually rate the collection attach together by Criterion.

The 3-DVD box status of “Brazil” starts off with the “final final” director’s slice of the film, topping out at 142 minutes. (There are eight minutes of footage added to this release.) The film is presented in its modern 1.85:1 dimensions. Fact is, the transfer of the movie is so-so.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Brazil! Click Here

For all the Criterion hoopla, the print here is flawed. The notes pay tribute to a few digital scratch removers, but I was truly surprised by the amount of garbage in the print (dirt, empty spots, and such) that litter the frames. One of Sam’s initial dream flights has mighty gunk inhabiting the lower left corner, and any frame by frame analysis will order an endless parade of bits of stuff inhabiting every shot. To be fair, I expected a lot more here and if there is any criticism of this collection, it lies with this fault primarily. They could have cleaned everything up considerably more than they did. And that’s a shame at this notice.

Colors and inequity in the print peer beneficial, though, and the sound is improbable. They pulled out a rotund stereo soundtrack and made it scream, so kudos there, too. The sound is tidy and vibrant.

The booklet detailing the film is obliging, but not the best I’ve seen, even for a lesser boxset. The voice listings for the other two DVDs are small more than a single overview sheets.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Brazil! Click Here

Director Terry Gilliam’s commentary track on the first disc is priceless and captivating, almost obedient of the cost for the dwelling alone. As a film geek, I personally gain all director commentaries to be spirited, so I may not be the best consider. In this case, though, Gilliam gives us a rich view at the film that stands up to the best of other directors’s commentaries I’ve heard.

Criterion’s skimping on the booklets is made up for in the second disc, which contains all the background of the film. “The Battle of Brazil” is the high point as Gilliam and some of the Universal Studios execs discuss the crazy backstory that almost led to the demise of the film as we know it. The film’s handlers and financiers all fretted that they had an arthouse share that would go nowhere, but Gilliam refused to invent the desired cuts or to swerve from the darkness of the ending. It wasn’t until he managed to sneak a final edit of the movie to the Los Angeles Film Critics organization that he was able to outduel the execs. When the critics lauded the film and lavished their prizes on it, the naysayer’s bluff was called and the film was released, albeit to only modest box-office that barely made attend its money. Film critic Jack Matthews hosts this slightly more than an hour examination of the battle between the creative forces and the forces of pragmatism.

The second DVD also includes “What is Brazil? ” – a mostly throwaway unhurried the scenes study at the making of the film that features the cast and some of the writers. I didn’t catch it particularly illuminating.

The grand disappointment in the second DVD is that many of the production notes covering the effect, special effects, bag, and more are not filmed, but simply text. I wanted more than that. Somewhat disappointing. There are some genuine insights into the flying effects in the dream sequences, though. That distinguished of it was model work is simply fabulous.

The last DVD features the bowdlerized, 94 microscopic TV syndication release of the film dubbed “Appreciate Conquers All.” This gay ending version was done apart from Gilliam and probably represents what the studio heads had hoped would be the released version. “Cross” is too kind a word to exercise to represent this version. Critic David Morgan’s commentary notes all that was left out, and a few scenes that were added attend in. While this version isn’t worth your time, it is safe of inclusion in the area, fleshing out the madness that almost killed the movie entirely.

I have always considered “Brazil” to be genius, frankly. As a dystopia, the world it portrays out-Orwells them all. If you despise bureaucracy–and who but bureaucrats doesn’t–then this is the film for you. And only Gilliam would be brave enough to create a renegade HVAC repairman a mythically gallant addition to that world.

Plenty of people don’t gain this movie and I don’t know why. Roger Ebert loved “Shaded City,” but passed on “Brazil,” inexplicably, so even critics aren’t perfect. Many of today’s films owe mighty to “Brazil” and that alone makes it valuable.

In the kill, three stars for the package and five for the film itself. The lack of a more pristine print subtracts two chunky stars from what would have otherwise been a perfect review, however. Criterion’s boxset, though flawed, is level-headed the best arrangement to experience the film, so if you are a fan of “Brazil” or Gilliam’s work, this is the only plot to soar.

I never had the opportunity to behold this classic film, neither on tv, nor on vhs format….Having watched so many times Capra’s “Meet John Doe”, also starring Cooper and Stanwyck, which I adore….I had always wanted to explore this second and last pairing of this incredible cloak couple.

When I bought my dvd player, three years ago, this one was of the first movies I wanted to engage….but when I tried to, the dvd edition was already out of stock or out of print….and sadly for us, this HBO 1998 dvd edition, is being sold at very high prices at Internet Stores. So… I had lost all hopes when I had the luck of finding it at a very convenient trace in an unknown minute store in Raleigh, North Carolina, while on vacation there.

This astonishing, classic comedy…deserved the long wait….’cos Stanwyck is really extraordinary as cabaret stripper and singer Sugarpuss O’Shea, at first using Gary Cooper for her gain selfish purposes, but in the process (not unexpectedly), falling for his naive, clumsy Professor Potts (”Pottsy” for her) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream Ball of Fire! Click Here

By the procedure, professor Potts works on an encyclopedia project with seven fellow experts, on different areas of knowledge, all of them bachelors or widowers, living by themselves in a huge house…with the only female presence of the elderly housekeeper, Miss Bragg (played by Kathleen Howard), who doesn’t live there (she wouldn’t dare to!!) .

While researching more information on original slang (for their encyclopedia project), Cooper meets Stanwyck at a nightclub, where she sings with legendary Gene Krupa! (nothing less!!) immediately trying to persuade her to meet him at his home (with other fellow “users” of slang: the garbage man, the newspaper boy et al), in order to try earn all of the existing slang words into the encyclopedia.

His seven fellow -much older than Cooper- co-workers and professors, are sort of like the seven dwarfs kind of characters, trying to play matchmaker between sexy-woman-of-the world Sugarpuss O’Shea and reluctant, prudish Professor Bertram Potts. Some of them are played by the best of character actors: Richard Haydn (his debut on mask), S.Z. Sakall, Henry Travers, Oscar Homolka, Tully Marshal, et al.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Ball of Fire! Click Here

Also, distinguished performances by Dana Andrews (as Stanwyck’s underworld boyfriend) and Dan Duryea, as one of his “boys”.

Hilarious scenes, very comical moments and witty dialogue, thanks to a spacious script by the Charles Brackett-Billy Wilder team, and Howard Hawks’ deft direction.

The dvd edition is excellent, dazzling crisp and moving…featuring the modern mono audio and a remastered-stereophonic one.

1941 was an top-notch year for both actors, besides this one and “Meet John Doe”, Stanwyck starred in the very, very comical Preston Sturges’ movie “The Lady Eve”, with Henry Fonda, and Cooper starred in Hawks’ “Sergeant York”, and Oscar winning role.

This one was remade in 1948 by Hawks, as “A Song is Born” with Danny Kaye and Virginia Mayo, a humorous movie, but not up to the recent.

This retelling of the SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS was actually based on a script that Billy Wilder wrote before immigrating to the United States from Germany, but it was only after the success of the Disney version that a request was created for it. The enormously versatile Howard Hawks (quite literally the most versatile director in film history, the only director to have mastered and/or created five or six genres) took the script and turned it into one of the last grand pre-WW II comedies. The yarn is simple: a group of monkish scholars living together in Original York City are writing an encyclopedia. One of them is writing about slang, but being queer with contemporary argot begins research his topic by talking to people outside his normal range of acquaintance. He runs into gangster moll Sugarpuss O’Shea, who takes advantage of the scholars to go in with them in order to run the police, who want to talk to her to implicate her guy Joe Lilac. While hardly Snow White, she certainly managed to promenade up their lives.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Ball of Fire! Click Here

The film is made fantastic by a number of things: Wilder’s clever script, Hawks typically deft direction, a solid performance by Gary Cooper, but most of all by a scintillating job by the overwhelmingly alluring Barbara Stanwyck and a stellar collection of aged character actors playing the seven dwarves. All the latter are tall, but special mention has to be made of Richard Haydn (who excells even beside the others, with his unbelievable overpronounciation of everyday words), Oskar Homolka, and S.Z. Sakall. There are few more luscious collections of character actors in any Hollywood comedy. I personally lift Barbara Stanwyck to any other actress in Hollywood history. She possessed an emotional immediacy that no other actress could approximate, and while her skills were perhaps a tad below those of someone like Katherine Hepburn, the latter never managed to match her fire and passion. And she is so sexy! I grew up watching Stanwyck on THE Spacious VALLEY, so when I first started seeing her spacious roles from the thirties, forties, and fifties, I was absolutely stupefied at how sexy she could be. She was elegant, yes, but sexier than she was glowing. And she was never sexier than she was here, with the exception of her role the same year in THE LADY EVE.

Another reason to watch this film is the appearance of Gene Krupa in the early nightclub sequence. Krupa had, of course, been with Benny Goodman throughout the thirties, so this was very early in his career as leader of his maintain band.

Similar to the last DVD releases, you can definitely put a question to provocative, fun and luscious commentary in this latest release.

JUDGMENT CALL:

“GREEK – CHAPTER THREE” continues to up the ante in regards to original pledges joining the fraternities but even more so for the problems that Casey and Ashleigh have to face in the Zeta Beta Zeta house courtesy of their sister, Frannie. Whereas the first two chapters featured multiple cherish triangles and angst, the characters are mighty more well-grounded this time around but calm face major challenges within their fraternity and sorority. Also, “GREEK – CHAPTER THREE” delves deeper into more character development and the various friendships but quiet maintaining the GREEK events on campus.

It’s critical to impress that similar to the release of Chapter One and Chapter Two on DVD, “GREEK” will more than likely continue to be released not as a beefy season dwelling but half season sets therefore going by “chapters”. Chapter 3 focuses on the ten episodes that aired in the Drop of 2008.

Overall, “CHAPTER THREE” definitely revs up the Casey vs. Frannie storyline and by episode 10, Frannie’s bombshell definitely sets the stage for a more competitive Chapter 4 between the two women. Both Spencer Grammer (Casey) and Tiffany Dupont (Frannie) do a solid job and also an titillating reversal for the character of Rebecca Logan (Dilshad Vadsaria) . Ashleigh fans will be elated to survey there are more episodes utilizing her character. Also, Rusty Cartwright (Jacob Zachar) receives major development from being the meek teenager to a guy who is starting to approach out of his hold shell. Cappie (Scott Michael Foster) will always be Cappie and the series also further explores Calvin’s (Paul James) homosexuality but also trying to fit in like a regular pledge member to a fraternity.

It was also fun to examine “Buffy the Vampire” and “Angel” starlet, Charisma Carpenter again, playing the character of Tegan Walker. It was also titanic to recognize Carol Potter (who played Cindy Walsh, the current mother from “Beverly Hills 90210) once again. And I also enjoyed seeing Ms. Manners – Lizzi (Senta Moses) coming to the relieve of Casey once again.

As for the DVD, similar to the previous DVD releases, you accept the upbeat and delectable commentary tracks and a few other special features. But for the most fragment, for fans of “GREEK”, this latest chapter is another solid DVD release and definitely hooks you in and makes you wonder how explosive the episodes are going to fetch for Chapter 4. Especially for the Zeta Beta Zeta sisters as things are no longer going to be the same.

Overall, “GREEK – CHAPTER THREE” continues to accept better and manages to balance of portraying those in a frat or sorority but for those who are wanting more character development, you definitely gain that with this latest chapter on DVD. Definitely worth checking out!

I recommend Greek to Everyone! no matter who you are your gonna cherish these characters and the drama that comes with them lol!

When I saw that the CRITERION COLLECTION was bringing THE BLOB to DVD – I have to admit I was apprehensive. This effective and classy limited 1950’s monster flick was getting the kind of star treatment that most films released on DVD are begging for. And for great reason… THE BLOB is an generous movie. It hits all the marks, it stands it grounds, it never bores you and it provides you with a new (and even credible) monster that to this day is serene more rotten than most that imperfect the camouflage (and yet remains the most fun – really, if gum chewed help, it would view like the BLOB) . CRITERION again shines here… period style box art (including in the lower left corner a warning that the producers of THE BLOB can not be held libal for heart attacks or faninting from watching the film), a fact based booklet featuring the orginal poster art from the release for it’s cloak, plus a half sheet poster of the box art that is high quality and all glossy… a exquisite touch. The disc features an wonderful transfer of the film. The colors are crisp and the sound is quiet effective and well balanced. Two audio commentaries are included with the disc, and each are insightful and lively. Both remain handsome powerful conceal specific, but do branch out from time to time to elaborate a host of inside details (like why McQueen wished had had taken a percentage of THE BLOB, and how the leading lady wasn’t cast until the very last second… which was the very first day of shooting) . Trailer is included, as well as what is really a valid addition… a photo collection of gradual the scene stills, effects (even what the accurate BLOB looked like off camera and unprejudiced how mountainous it really was… puny hint: not very), and rare BLOB props and BLOB memorabilia – overall CRITERION has given us yet another must have for DVD owners. If you’re a fan of the period and the genre, then THE BLOB is a must, I can not recommend it enough… it’s pure fun. And if you know someone this holiday season that is getting a DVD and into 50’s shockers… launch them off lawful and lift up the BLOB.

Those expecting a pristine copy of this 1958 sci-fi classic should glance out Criterion’s DVD (which Amazon also carries) rather than this no-frills budget version. For serious fans of “The Blob,” the Criterion version is the only blueprint to go and includes two separate audio commentaries from producer Jack Harris and director Irvin Yeaworth, among others. Also included is a photo stills gallery of collector Wes Shank’s Blob collection, including the celebrated red silicone masquerading as a man-eating monster from outer location.

For casual fans of the film, however, this version (from Beverly Wilshire Filmworks, distributed by Front Row Video) is serviceable enough with VHS-like viewing quality. The source material isn’t abominable, but is certainly nowhere arrive as crisp and super looking (and sounding) as the Criterion version. It is the full-length version, however, and is presented in stout hide (pan & scan) . But that’s all you net, there are no extras to be had, not even chapter breaks. You unbiased trail the disc into your DVD player and it plays automatically.

Residents of Chester County, Pennsylvania (west of Philadelphia) may witness a few of the film’s locations including the Colonial Theater in Phoenixville and the Downingtown Diner, both of which are featured prominently in the film’s climax. These cinematic “landmarks” are unruffled in existence today, well over 40 years after the film was made.

Randolph Scott (1898-1987) rides tall in the saddle as a powerful cattle rancher in this action-packed Western , Scott how made a noteworthy contribution to this genre in the late 1950s as lean , mean cowboy , stars as John Stewart , an Arizona Rancher determined to rule his vast empire with strong-willed integrity . Stewart meets with appostions , however from local landowner Wick Campbell (Richard Boone 1917-1981) who preferes the persuasive power of the pistol to the letter of the law . Suddenly Stewart is Forced to Defend himself and the Women he Loves (Jocelyn Brando 1919-2005 , older sister of Marlon Brandon 1924-2004) against Campbell?s renegates who are determined to ransack the town .Now Stewart must take a life-and-death stand in rugged controntation that pits aone man of justice against the Owerwhelming odds of TEN WANTED MAN .This is a superb plot and great movie . High Quality digital transfer . Recommended

While Columbia studios’ TEN WANTED MEN is not a top drawer Western like COMANCHE STATION or RIDE LONESOME of a few years later, it is never less than entertaining—the kind of “super B” feature that enthralled sagebrush-addicts back in the 1950s. Certainly this is no Budd Boetticher directed product, and it lacks his stunning, distinctive touches, but there is enough action to keep any fan glued to his TV set. Richard Boone, who appeared in a number of Randy Scott’s 1950s Westerns (most notably in THE TALL T), stands out as a superbly drawn villain. And Scott is always excellent.

This film is one of the best things that I have seen advance out of the GITS franchise. I have watched the movie several times, each time enjoying even more. I would give a description of the dwelling, but I will not demolish it for you. My only complaint about Solid Location Society is that it borrows ideas from both of the feature-length movies. If you liked GITS: SAC, and most specially 2nd GIG, you will devour this movie.

Note: It is dubbed in English, unlike Innocence. Amazon honest has that fact incorrect

Solid Residence Society is hopefully a mark of what is to advance in the world of Ghost in the Shell. After Stand Alone Complex’s 2nd GIG, I was definitely left with a slightly bitter aftertaste. The pacing of the 2nd GIG felt uneven and the legend felt more convoluted than tastefully complex, creating an adequate but not perfect addition to the GitS series. However, Solid Region Society takes the best from the Stand Alone Complex series and in slight under two hours presents a legend as rich in detail and as lovingly complex as the series preceding it.

A vast plus of the movie is that instead of feeling like an overstretched episode, it feels more like a long arc of quality episodes stringed together while smooth feeling cinematic in its presentation. Solid Set Society gives us everything we ask in a GitS story: a sci-fi universe that draws you in but never overwhelms, continuity in character development, rich and vivid dialogue and situation that almost seems plausible down the road, and of course, some light philosophy and shades of grey. Even if you aren’t an anime or a strict sci-fi fan, you might unprejudiced delight in this one.
