Though he’s best known for his Monty Python stuff don’t be fooled into thinking this series is comedy. Terry Jones is an expert on this topic and presents some very compelling detail about roles in medieval society. The right gem of the series is that with each profession you survey another share of the whole puzzle fits together to give you a stout narrate. Finding exact information about this time period that isn’t about nobility or war is virtually impossible and Jones fills that gap admirably. Invaluable (and very keen) knowledge for anyone with a casual or professional interest in this sort of thing.

If I were pressed to come by a negative about this series, it feels like a few ends are left dangling- I’m left wanting to watch more chapters about the daily life of professional soldiers or lesser nobles. Some chapters, such as the one about kings, is more concerned with spirited trivia over daily life. All in all, minor complaints.

I’ve enjoyed Terry Jones’s Hidden History Series (Egypt, Rome, History of Weapon technology) and purchased the “Barbarians” documentary. This one is exquisite and educational like the other ones but adding the animation is shimmering! Considering that Monty Python always had animation, they should have done this on all the Terry Jones documentaries! There is also a bonus documentary on gladiators in Rome which is about an hour or so. Nice!

The Gekkostate, along with Master Norb, select a brief shatter from the paddle to do something Master Norb considers to be very primary…play soccer! The first episode shows how wonderful members of the Gekko are at the game, and is the most lighthearted one on the disc. By its waste, you are reminded of Dewey’s titanic power and that the mission is only beginning.

Next, the Gekko travels to the Vadarac shrine in the hope that Renton and Eureka will be able to meet the mysterious Lady Sakuya. After a difficult and sneaky entrance, the two succeed and learn of the tragic past of a girl named Sakuya and a boy named Norb. In truth, both Sakuya and Eureka were created by the scub coral to communicate with humans. When Norb is appointed to buy care of Sakuya, the two accidentally obtain an unbreakable bond. They try to fetch past the Broad Wall and approach the Promised Land in the hope that it will set aside humanity, but fail as Sakuya transforms into a flower bud and Norb has a compac drive embedded in his chest.

All hope is not lost however, as Sakuya is told of the birth of another – Eureka, who may be able to achieve what she could not. After hearing the epic, Norb tells the two to go, as he and Sakuya will launch the contrivance for them, along with the Nirvash, to near the Promised Land and earn passed the Ample Wall!

This isn’t as easy as it seems however, as outside Dewey is obvious to end them. Ultimately, Holland sacrifices his believe ship, the 909, to stall The Extinguish long enough for Renton, Eureka, Nirvash, and the children to approach the Promised Land, while Anemone is brutally rejected. Now that they have entered the Promised Land, what will Renton and Eureka obtain?

Ultimately, these are four very inspiring episodes, with the first being the most droll and warm. The legend of Sakuya and Norb is truly a tragic one, but one that has a pleased destroy thanks to Renton and Eureka as the last image of the two seen is them walking away, holding hands… The extras on the disc are lacking, but do have audio commentary on one episode by the novel Japanese sigh actors, as usual, and an interview by the English notify of Holland. Overall, if you’re a fan or collector, this disc is a must have. With only 2 discs and 8 episodes of the series remaining, how will the epic change, now that it is coming dangerously conclude to its conclusion?

Nasty and inappropriate Mayor Nard Lundy (Edward Andrews) is challenged by idealistic Jeff Rose (Ricky Nelson) in an upcoming election. Lundy has Sheriff Clyde Barnes (Jack Elam) rough the young upstart up some. Rose’s visiting father-in-law, retired Texas Ranger Captain Oren Hayes (Pat O’Brien) sends an urgent telegraph to three of his old content (Walter Brennan, Chill Wills and Edgar Buchanan) to near to Boulder immediately and benefit him trim up the town.

THE OVER-THE-HILL GANG is a 1969 made-for-television movie that was celebrated enough at the time to lead to a sequel a year later. For used movie fans it’s hard to beat the appeal of this feeble character actor laden movie. It’s fun to spy them play off each other and confront a state that their advancing years have forced them to deal with more with guile than brute force. What’s not so great fun is seeing them saddled with this tired, predictable site.

Brennan and Buchanan shine brightest in this one; Brennan as the gun slinger who’s lost a bit of rush on his quickly contrivance and Buchanan as the scout who’s eyesight has deteriorated to the point that he’s drawing his guns on stuffed and mounted bears. With a better script, and a more ravishing and penetrating examination of what it feels like to suddenly glean yourself conventional and in the diagram, this one could have been a classic for the ages rather than an silly fraction of fluff.

The print transfer to dvd is so-so. Some of the night scenes are muddy and it’s hard to obtain out what’s happening. The dvd also comes with the Diminutive Rascals’ short “Hooky Spooky.”

Fans of weak movies should like the customary character actors in this, although they may agree that the folks in front of the camera in THE OVER-THE-HILL GANG deserved far better.

The technical fragment of this review refers to the Brentwood Home Video or BCI Eclipse version.

From the Aaron Spelling stable of TV movies comes this epic with Ricky Nelson (and his wife Kris Nelson) as an idealistic couple. Ricky is running for Mayor of a diminutive western town against Edward Andrews who plays a contemptible town boss. Jack Elam is his Sheriff and Andy Devine is his Contemplate, both firmly entrenched in his succor pocket.

Pat O’Brien comes to town as Ricky Nelson’s father-in-law, a retired Texas Ranger who rounds up his traditional partners (Walter Brennan, Edgar Buchanan and Chill Wills)!!! Throw in Gypsy Rose Lee as the owner of the local saloon and you got yourself a graceful profitable (for TV) rip-snorting western. You know how it’s going to play out, but watching the all these stars in action makes up for a sub-par script.

Unfortunately the transfer is from a well-used print that looks like it was recorded in long play mode. At times, scenes taking plot at night are almost unwatchable. But the chance to behold these stars of westerns in their later years is a treat you should not miss if you’re a fan of the western genre.

Brentwood/BCI keep in their usual extras, six chapter stops, a DVD dictionary, trivia game and a short subject (Hal Roach’s “Cramped Rascals”) . This movie is also in a 10 pack of westerns at about triple the ticket for this one film from Brentwood Home Video called “The Wild West” and is available from Amazon.com.

The Apartment is an insightful movie made by one of cinema’s most talented directors. The set is fairly simple, but C.C. Baxter’s (Jack Lemmon) is anything but. By innocently lending out his apartment to a coworker, Baxter’s status becomes the treasure nest for his philandering colleagues. Along the contrivance, Baxter develops a friendship with Fran Kubelik (Shirley Maclaine), one of several lovely female elevator operators. Baxter is rewarded for his generosity by getting promoted by Jeff D. Sheldrake (Fred MacMurray) . Runt does he realize that Fran is Sheldrake’s latest plaything. The Apartment has all that you demand from the best of Wilder: grand performances, witty dialogue, and a residence that holds to this day, even if most of the depiction of the corporate office environment has changed dramatically (When was the last time you saw an elevator operator? ) . The three stars provide immense characterizations, with MacMurray the steady surprise here playing against type. This film is also distinguished for solidifying the Wilder/Lemmon team. With The Apartment, Lemmon was no longer playing second male leads or supporting roles. A worthwhile film that is detached luscious today, but the DVD version leaves remarkable to be desired. The describe quality is excellent, but the looping (the sound synchronization) is off and very distracting. Don’t know the reason for this, but considering this film’s station in cinema history, I would have conception it would have gotten the A treatment. The DVD is a disappointment.

This 1960 winner of the Academy Award for Best Relate of 1960,touched our hearts and made us smile 43 years ago and composed does today. It has not lost one bit of it’s charm and continues to add current fans all the time. It’s a esteem chest of tremendous cinema moments, and a must fill for collectors of classics, Billy Wilder or Jack Lemmon films.

Lemmon’s ample talent shines through as C.C. Baxter, one of thousands of office workers in a titanic company who is speedily working his plot to the top floor and the executive washroom. He’s got what it takes to earn ahead…he’s a dedicated employee, and a hard worker, he’s got they key to success…and it opens the door to his apartment! It seems the powers that be on the upper floors have discovered this single guy’s bachelor pad and have badgered Baxter into letting them employ it for their petite extracurricular activities.

Things bag complicated for C.C. though, when the great boss wants in on the action. He wants the apartment for his bear spend and now C.C. has a chance to go all the procedure to the top floor.But the rewards are bittersweet..Mr. Sheldrake’s girl turns out to be the very sweet elevator operator Miss Fran Kubelik. The very girl that C.C. adores himself.

The moments as we stare C.C. agonize over this jam are touchingly silly,and poignant. Lemmon is brillant in his portrayal as he is able to bring all these emotions to the shroud.The rest of the cast is well-behaved as well. Shirley MacLaine(Fran) will touch your heart, Fred MacMurray(Sheldrake) is splendid at his turn as the philandering exec(you’ll behold him in a very different light from his “My Three Sons” role), and also survey for such spacious notables as Ray Walston, Jack Kruschen, Joan Shawlee,Hope Holiday and the astonishing Edie Adams. Oscar also honored legendary director Billy Wlider for his work as director and another for screenplay along with I.A.L. Diamond. The music by Adolph Deutsch is as sweet as the anecdote and will quit with you for quite some time after the opinion.

Overall the DVD was quite marvelous. This 43 year frail film looked resplendent pleasurable. It could expend a runt improvement. There were times when it showed it’s age, but the murky and white images were positive and knowing for the most portion.The sound is in Dolby Dig MONO!….”Some Like It Hot” made only 1 year prior to this one, has been enhanced with Dol Dig 5.1(on both DVD editions) and sounds spacious.The Special Edition of “SLIH”, even gives you the choice of watching it in the 5.1 or the unusual mono. This is a film that deserves at least the same attention. It may be veiwed in French and Spanish and has subtitles in those langauges as well. But..there are no subtitles or captions in English for hearing impaired viewers to delight in this gigantic classic and that is a shame. This is a film that should be enjoyed by all! MGM..maybe it’s time for a current edition of this care for.

Like all Kipper DVDs, this one is gigantic value for money. Seven child-pleasing episodes gain for an hour of fun, and this one is especially pleasant for animal lovers. Martin Clunes again provides the express for Kipper, and Chris Lang for everybody else.

The Nest – Kipper and Tiger advance across a cramped lost bird, and while trying to rep it encourage to its nest, they settle to try living in a tree. The worm hunting scene is hilarious, as is the nest building employ.

Jake’s Bird – Jake’s pet bird flies the coop, and Kipper and Pig team up to succor procure it. They procure more than they bargain for.

Echo, Echo – A clever parrot makes Kipper judge he’s hearing things. The parrot is an extremely droll character, with all the “pleasant” lines.

The Goldfish – Kipper and Tiger both have aquatic pets, at least temporarily. The goldfish takes sweet revenge.

The Mouse – Kipper gets an uninvited house guest (The mouse is a cramped annoying)

Hide and Eye – More mouse play and lessons in counting

Hedgehog Spy – A spiky critter gets the upper hand on Kipper and Tiger.

Great for pre-school or kindergarten kids, and for adults needing a runt peace and peaceful.

We hold Pools Parks & Picnics, Fun In the Sun, Let It Snow, and the Playtime DVDs. I would have to say this ranks at the bottom of the popularity list among all that we believe, but it’s unexcited friendly ole Kipper, so if you already have a few, it might be worth adding to your collection. If you haven’t yet purchased Playtime, I would recommend that one for obvious, followed by Pools Parks & Picnics — bewitch those before you retract this one.

Got this one with a Best Buy gift card that I received as a gift for Christmas. Although it was exciting to purchase the DVD, I’ve mixed emotions…because of the content of Disc II. Let me talk about Disc 1 first. To start off…disc one is great and I laughed & laughed & laughed some more. It’s filled with lots of memorable Looney Tunes Favorites…strung together cleverly with a modern story. The major hi-lights from Disc one have to be “Ali Baba Bunny”, “Robin Hood Daffy”, and “What’s Opera, Doc?”, although every cartoon is a riot. There are some episodes (cartoons) which our local tv station doesn’t play too often…so it’s nice to have them in their full length versions with such clarity.

On the other hand…Disc 2 is strung together with a very aggravating & annoying modern story, featuring Yosemite Sam & his loud-mouth, bratty nerd of a son. It’s not amusing unless you’re the type who’s expecting anything to happen. In fact, this whole disc is spoiled because of the above mentioned character (Yosemite Sam’s son). It’s difficult to appreciate a cartoon when you have an ugly character with a really loud mouth & bad attitude. That’s why I only rated the DVD 4 stars. Actually…I’d rate it about 3.8 stars…if possible. The hi-lights on Disc 2 are “Ducking out of the cold”, “Hassan Chop”, and “Singing Frog”, which won an award at the cartoon festival, here in Montreal in the 90’s.

If you are into a bunch of laughs and don’t mind Yosemite Sam’s annoying loudmouth son, this 2DVD set is for you…because it is truly a funny item…and at 171 minutes in length…it’s definitely worth adding to your collection. Picture, Color & Sound Quality is remarkable and clear, making it a treat to watch over and over.

It always amazes me with the status of cartoons today. Yet with all the hype, there just is a whole generatiion that not only doesn’t appreciate the classics like Disney or MGM with Tom & Jerry, they just ignore it. Yet for this generation, the one biggest cartoon franchise is the looney tunes. Warner Brothers has done a fantastic job the past few years re-releasing cartoons for the highly acclaimed golden collections. Although that has been great, they also have released smaller and more petite editions like the lackluster premire collection and spotlight collection, for people who want the zanyness of Bugs, without all the hassle in price. While that has been unfortunate, a change had to be made.

The Looney Tunes Movie Collection, is a 2 Disc DVD collection, that contains 2 Warner Brothers cartoon movies from the past, that have been placed on DVD for the very first time. The collection is considered as a smarter motion to display and a great ordeal of improvement, especially with the lackluster Premire and Spotlight Collections. The first disc showcases the Bugs Bunny & Road Runner movie by the late legendary Chuck Jones, which includes so many snippet of some of his most dynamic cartoons from the legendary What’s Opera Doc, Duck Amuck, the Oscar-winning Pepe Le Pew toon For Scent-imental Reasons, and a unique compilation of some of the greatest chases from Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner. The movie was incredibly funny, and has been remastered beautifully in a quaint display.

The second movie in this bunch is Bugs Bunny’s 2rd Movie: 1001 Rabbit Tales, a story that Friz Freleng compiled. This is about Bugs & Daffy as book salesman, going head-to-head for the chance as a pro, where both of their jobs land them in hot water. Bugs takes a awkward turn in the hot desert, where he happens to be pushed by an arab Yosemite Sam to read stories to his bratty and ego-minded son. This movie showcases some hilarious toons like Goldimouse & The Three Cats, the Chuck Jones classic One Froggy Evening, the enjoyable Ali Baba Bunny, and Bewitched Bunny which was Bugs Bunny’s first encounter with Witch Hazel. Like the other DVD in this collection, the movie has been restored very well, and doesn’t miss a single beat in humor.

Nevertheless, I honestly doubt that many people might consider this collection with Warner Brothers recent release of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection volume 3 coming out, but this is much better than the two previous vinette compilations from before. The Looney Tunes Movie Collection is a much needed improvement, and is a great buy for the die hard looney tunes fanatic, or anybody who hasn’t seen the zanyness yet.

‘Final Fantasy’ is a computer game that has gone through countless versions and editions. Taken as a whole, this mythos is probably one of the best know games in its genre. It is distinct from the beginning of this film that Sony and Hironbu Sakaguchi (producer, director, and writer) were intent on topping an already lustrous history of graphic accomplishments. In a sense, ‘The Spirits Within’ represents a fragment of history in the making. It is the first film that presents a startling approximation of life using only automation.

The dwelling is simple. An asteroid falling to earth carries within it a host of phantom creatures that seem hell crooked on destroying earthly life. Civilization has been reduced to living in shielded enclaves, and it is only a matter of time before the planet becomes a afraid wasteland. Aki Ross and her mentor, Dr. Sid, are working on the creation of a neutralizing ‘wave’ based on the eight basic phantom life forms. General Hein does not trust Dr. Sid’s theories about a Gaia, or planetary spirit, and wants to exercise a spacious orbital laser cannon to waste the current meteor, possible destroying the earth in the process. The conflict between these points of concept and their shattering effects on the planet are the meat of the film.

Captain Gray Edwards, once Aki’s lover, crystallizes this struggle between the material world of violent reaction and the spiritual world of growth and synthesis. The film plays a bit like an evolved ‘Starship Troopers.’ In many ways, it presents the same visual image, and deals with the same issues. The spot for the director and the viewer is to score past the blooming graphic work to experience the abiding spiritual faith that is its meaning. Ironically, the film itself is a metaphor for the issues it expresses.

It is almost futile to discuss the film’s animation and create. They are so far above what we are old to that the required superlatives sound trite. In essence, the animation staff dwelling out to gain something that is even more precise than life, and to a vast extent, they have succeeded. This hyperrealism, combined with an almost ballet like feeling of choreography earn a sense of moment that makes this seem far more than an action film. The overall animation is carefully balanced so as to maintain the focus on the characters. Even so, this film has such a sensory execute that the viewer is tempted to forget the state and simply see the conceal.

The famous DVD provides the film and a whole place of commentaries (directing crew, animation and staging, composer, and production staff), plus the usual trailers, etc. In the special edition, a second disk adds an extensive ‘Making of…’ segment, the entire screenplay and some analysis of character, vehicle, and prop execute. Technically, this is an critical film, despite its simplistic region and characters. While I consider it would be vast to explore a 6 hour Final Fantasy movie that had such an intricate dwelling, I realize that would be unrealistic for a feature film. The script could have been written a itsy-bitsy bit better, but I consider it was written the plot it was so the average movie-goer would sustain up with the situation. I know I didn’t have any difficulty following Dr. Sid’s theories about Gaia and what the Phantom’s really were. But that could’ve been from playing the games.. I saw sort of the conception in FF7, with everyone and everything having a spirit.

The cg was wonderful and tte physics were.. well, terminate. Although I deem in 65 years, we may be able to bend the laws of physics a bit more, so this could possibly extinguish up mimicing precise life in 2065. I’ve read some film critics comment about the lack of consistency with the Phantoms, how they can depart through walls and suck the life out of someone, yet can be harmed by passe weapons. Those guns didn’t leer archaic to me… energy weapons would have the do they did. Opinion: those film critics who commented about that didn’t know what they were talking about.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and I intend to peek it a few more times before it leaves theatres. This quite possibly gets my vote for the Best Movie of All time.

This is a model DVD release for a rock band. No corners seem to have been chop! The concert footage itself is very generous, the extras are ample, and there’s a lot of care and attention paid to every last detail of the packaging. This probably isn’t the best concert in Queen’s history, but it’s probably the best filmed Queen concert, and that’s more than apt enough for me. Everything you loved, or hated, or loved to loathe about the band is preserved in exceptional detail. It’s almost like being there. I pick this DVD to other filmed Queen concerts, to be fair. Queen were not only good rockers but also astonishing showmen, and Freddie and Brian’s showmanship is nothing but attractive. This is one of my approved concert DVDs, and is well worth a seize instead of the collections of Queen lip-synched videos also available on the market.

By 1986, Queen was at their absolute peak. They had placed themselves up there with the greats. So during their Magic Tour, they decided to professionally film their Wembley Stadium concert. They played two nights at Wembley, July 11-12 1986, and each night they packed in 70,000 plus. Since it rained the first night, the Wembley Concert DVD is from the sunny, July 12th.

The first thing to point out is that Seven Seas Of Rhye is only 1 shrimp, 18 seconds long here. In other words, it’s not the complete song. That’s okay though, since the Rest of the DVD is a gem. Brain’s guitar solo ends up at more than 9 minutes, and in the middle of the concert, Queen throws in covers of faded songs. Ending out the DVD is We Will Rock You, followed by Friends Will Be Friends. First, it’s only 2 minutes of Friends Will Be Friends, but surprisingly second, it’s not the We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions combo. That’s okay, I never mind a runt change once and a while.

Overall, the concert is good. It contains many immense Queen songs, and other gargantuan non-Queen songs. You have songs on here like One Vision, Another On Bites The Dust, Now I’m Here, Bohemian Rhapsody, Radio GA GA, We Will Rock You, and We Are The Champions objective to name a few. The stage is broad, and Freddie Mercury manages to shroud every square plod of it. Every moment, he’s somewhere different.

The bonus features are as followed:

While watching the bonus features, you’ll learn more about the Wembley concerts and how rainy it was at the Friday concert. This is a 2009 re-release of a earlier 2004 DVD version which has been out of print for map too long. Originally available in two parts on two VHS tapes in 1994, it was a gigantic relief to study them finally transfered to DVD.

With a total duration of 90 minutes, the first half (titled “A Plan Of Life”) includes an interview with the Dalai Lama and explores the history and exercise of the text of the Bardo Thötröl. Anyone sincerely enthusiastic in the liturgies and rites of the Tibetan Book Of The Insensible will get this first half of the documentary, shot over four months, simply gripping. Israel’s entry in the Oscar hurry gives a unique definition of the genre of documentary film. The opinion of an provocative documentary may seem to be paradoxical to some but this may be a whole original diagram to indicate an belief. Folman’s budge of introspection begins with his lack of memory and it seems that all he and his fellow soldiers have left is their dreams. One of the outmoded soldiers believes that the dream he has of the vicious dogs is subconscious punishment for his killing dogs on the mission. The film follows a stream of personal anecdotes and because remarkable of these stories are dreams, Folman chose to screech them through animation with the exception of the final scene and this is the scene that gives justification for the film. Therefore the film has a feeling that is both evocative and down-to-earth. We spy war as reprehensible and unpleasant and as the stuff that nightmares are made of. It is not about who won the war, who was lawful or who made mistakes. It is about how we, as people, react to war and how it affects people who are alive to in it.

Primarily “Bashir” is about the trauma of conflict, memory and its repression but it is also about the specifics of Israel’s role in the Lebanon war and about war in general as it is experienced by fighting men. It revels truth by taking the viewer abet in time through the memories of people who witnessed it. It devastates as it reconstructs how and why innocent civilians were massacred because those with the power to conclude what was going on did nothing. We do leer that Israel is not without guilt in acts of passive genocide which goes against the Israeli response to what Hamas provokes.

From the very first frame of film the movie grabs the viewer and will not let him go even after the film is over. The movie cuts deeply by using images of youth and this brings what he says home. This is more than unbiased a movie, it is a total experience that will probably change the views of many.

I’m compelled to write this review after watching the Academy of Motion Record Arts and Sciences’ Foreign Film selectors botch yet another award. David Ansen wrote in Newsweek last year about how the selection committee’s decision-making, umm, ‘process’ is the industry’s “long-standing joke.” The correct films don’t even derive nominated (Ansen’s article centered on the egregious omissions last year of 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days and The Band’s Visit) . And the ultimate winner is often the ultimate head-scratcher: faced this year with two sure-fire classics – this film and the equally superior French offering The Class (Entre les murs) [Theatrical Release] – the committee chose instead the little-known (and almost completely unseen) Japanese nominee Departures [Theatrical Release]. With all due respect to those filmmakers, you could hear the sense of bewilderment in the hall as the dazed winners (I suspect even they were dumbfounded) made their scheme to the stage. I’m distinct that bewilderment was mixed with murmurs from an audience of insiders – something along the lines of “fabulous, they’ve blown it again.”

A shame because this film is among the best you’ll ever search for – it’s writer/director Ari Folman’s attempts to deal with his repressed memories of his role in the Sabra and Shatila camp massacres during the 1982 Lebanon War. Folman’s innovative employ of animation allows him to re-stage the memories of his fellow soldiers. At the film’s extinguish, Folman’s role (or at least his proximity to the events) is revealed and animation segues into real-life footage of what transpired in the camps.

The Golden Globe committee – with a far more firmer occupy on accepted sense than the Academy – handed ‘Waltz’ its award for the best foreign language film of 2008.

Ansen’s article from last year reveals the Academy’s “attempt to reform a misbegotten system,” and concludes that “Label Johnson, chairman of the committee, has vowed further reforms. History suggests it’s going to be an uphill battle.”

Keep working at it, Mr. Johnson. This thing is unexcited broken.
